My family in Christ,
Recently I have been thinking about the post The Juxtaposition of Christ and Christianity Part #2 by DivideTheWord.blog. I have also had in mind many other blogs and comments that I have both seen and contributed to. It now seems to me that how ever much humans may try to promote and maintain the unity between our Christian family (which I still feel is a good and devout thing to do) our ecclesiastical differences will, to repeat the title, ultimately mean nothing:
They are like the walls of Jericho which will fall on that great and glorious day when our Saviour returns!
Before then, however, while we are hemmed in and imprisoned within these walls I would say that if you feel led to proclaim the unity of the Church then go for it!!! Just remember that there is a limit to the number of things we are required to believe:
(Also see: The Apostles’ Creed: what Christians must believe | Churchmouse Campanologist.)
Beware of placing things on top of this. For why believe or defend chaff? It is of no benefit and can actually be spiritually damaging! I am aware how difficult it is to just make sudden changes but please, churches, do not teach those who seek to follow Christ something that will hinder their spiritual progress. And fellow-travellers, please do not give credence to hearsay. Our hope must be to be released when the walls collapse, not to fall as part of the rubble!
God bless you.
